The raw natural beauty of the volcanic island in the Indian Ocean just takes one's breath away. Lush green forests, palm fringed white sands and exotic coral reefs, abundant birdlife and scenic mountains ensure that Mauritius as a holiday destination is truly the stuff of dreams. Most of the holidays in Mauritius are centered on the Island's majestic coastline which is dotted with a host of great resorts with their own private beaches. Further inland Mauritius has its own nature reserves and some stunning scenery including tropical forests and waterfalls. It's very natural isn't it, that such an idyllic place is bound to qualify as the perfect place for a perfect holiday?

Situated in the Indian Ocean to the East of Madagascar, this is an island of rich cultural diversity, having been occupied by the Dutch, French and the British respectively before acquiring independence in the late 60s. Today the population of Mauritius is a curious mix of the earlier settlers and those who were brought in primarily to work in the cane fields. However the culture is so open to adaptation that today the ethnic and modern cultures have combined to present a multi-cultural flavor that is truly global in the sense that most of the major Asian festivals are celebrated with pomp and show. Fortunately, the unique and traditional dance forms have survived too and a fine example is the Sega which originated from the ritual music of Madagascar and the mainland of Africa. Sega is one of the many cultural pleasures to be enjoyed by vacationers in Mauritius. Mauritius enjoys an equable climate and the mercury never dips far below the mid-twenties even in the 'winter' months, ensuring the warm weather charm of the island never wanes and water sports activities like snorkelling and surfing are year-round perks for Mauritius holidays. On land there are some lovely walking trails and the opportunity to go horse riding, not to mention the perfect arena for golfers. What more could one wish for from a complete holiday package? Food perhaps, which of course is not a problem at all, since Mauritius is home to a variety of cuisines which are said to appease the most demanding of taste buds.
