Both DirecTV and Dish Network are direct broadcast satellite services. They broadcast 100% digital satellite television to their subscribers in exchange of a monthly fee. Satellite television tends to give you more bang for your buck than Cable TV, so if you choose satellite television you will be faced with the question "Should I go with DirecTV or Dish Network?", and I created this article to help you decide.
A satellite TV provider is a company that operates satellites in geostationary orbit around the earth. Essentially this means the satellites will rotate with the earth at the same speed. Their satellites broadcast a signal down to your satellite dish and then it is sent to your receiver. Since the majority of subscribers in America use either Dish Network or DirecTV, the article will focus only upon these two. I will focus on the primary interests of a subscriber.
Programming Selection:
DirecTV and Dish Network both have a wide variety of programming selections for you to choose from. Dish Network has over 500 channels to offer, while DirecTV has around 225. I don't know anyone who watches that much TV, so it is best to look at each of their programming guides to see what networks they offer.
What really differentiates the two is in the options they provide. DirecTV is far ahead Dish Network when it comes to sports, they offer seasonal sports options such as NFL Sunday Ticket, DirecTV holds exclusive rights to this so Dish Network cannot offer this. They both have premium movie packages (Starz, HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime). Dish Network offers more channels, a whopping 500 as opposed to DirecTV's 225!
So it really depends on what channels you would be most interested in watching, if your a really big sports fan I'd reccomend DirecTV hands down, if you'd prefer to have a wide array of channels then Dish Network is the one for you.
Programming Quality:
Both companies offer 100% digital picture and CD quality sound on every channel they provide.
Cash Money:
I'm sure your worried about how much you are going to need to spend on this, well since both DirecTV and Dish Network are in a position where they can afford the satellite equipment, they offer it free with your subscription. They'll even set it up free of charge so you don't have to worry about it.
DirecTV's Total Choice package will give you 130 channels including local channels, for .99 per month. With this package you are required to sign a one year subsciption agreement so if you cancel your service within that year you have to pay a penalty free which varies in different areas.
Dish Network America Top 60 starts at .99 a month with local channels, but they do not require a contract, so you can cancel your subscription without penalty.
Final Thoughts:
The choice is yours to make, use the information I've provided in this article to make the decision you feel would be best for you and your situation, and why not do a little research of your own, maybe I didn't cover something in here that was really of interest to you.
Take some time to think about it, don't rush into anything or you may regret it later on. Make sure the choice your going to make is one that you can be happy with.
