The way you look can affect your personality and confidence. The first thing people judge you by, is the way that you look. Your nose is a very important feature as it is right bang in the middle of your face and can't be missed. People with "larger" noses or a crooked nose can become very self conscious of it and this will for some people affect their confidence. Many people wish for a neat little nose that will compliment with the rest of their facial features and many are ready to pay for achieving it. If you haven't heard of rhinoplasty, you are sure to have heard it under another name as ‘a nose job'.

People seek rhinoplasty surgery for a number of different reasons. Perhaps their nose has been broken at some point in their life and healed in a crooked fashion. Others have birth defects or may experience breathing problems and turn to rhinoplasty to fix it. Breathing problems can be due to a deviated septum and a nose job can allow them breathe normally again.

It is a common procedure with both men and women and can greatly change the way a person looks. Simply smoothing out a bump on your nose can change the whole look of your face. It is possible to make noses smaller, narrower or straighter, just choose the look that appeal.

This cosmetic procedure is very popular and also common and surgeons have developed a skilled and practiced method to ensure everyone is satisfied. Many Asian clients ask to have a bridge formed across the top part of their nose to make it look more European. Rhinoplasty is big business and one of the most requested and popular cosmetic surgeries. Thousands of people every day seek the help of a plastic surgeon to alter the size and shape of their nose. The procedure for Rhinoplasty is not very difficult to perform but the surgeon should be skilled and have carried out many other operations.

There are two different methods used for a "nose job". Less common way to do is the "open technique". This technique is mainly used for complicated operations. The nasal bones are reached by incisions made through the nostril and skin that separates the nostril, known as the columella.

Normally, for a routine nose job, the closed technique is used. In this procedure the nasal bones are reached by making incisions within the nostril. Once the cut has been made, the skin can be separated from the underlying bones and cartilages. This method is preferable as there is no scarring; as the surgeon is more or less working ‘blind'. For this surgical procedure it is essential that the surgeon is very skilled at his profession.

The surgeon will have to break the nasal bone in order to make his improvements and then re-set it in its new shape. Parts of the bone and cartilage can be used to design the nose in the way the client wants, shorten it or to lengthen or, make it narrower or widen the nostrils. Also angle of the nose can be modified to the look desired. In some cases, such as Asian noses, prosthetic devices are used as well as the patient's own cartilage to attain the look they want.

A local or general anaesthetic is given, depending on the amount of work to be done on the nose and the operation can be over in an hour. An operation like this operation can be very painful. Once the procedure is over, you are going to have bandage on your nose and gauze inserted inside the nose to stop any bleeding. Your eyes and nose will also be bruised and swollen and it will in an average take a couple of weeks before the swelling of the area settles down. Gauze is used to pack the inside of the nose so it can't be used for breathing. You will have to breathe through your mouth which can be uncomfortable. The outside dressing will have to be changed regularly and if bleeding occurs you should let your surgeon know.

It will be necessary to book at least two weeks off from work; even more might be good if possible. Sports and other physical activities will be very difficult and should be avoided. The pain can last for quite a while although the swelling and bruising will sooner disappear. The pain, swelling and bruising can last for a few months along with feeling as if your nose is stuffy and a numbness. Take it very slowly and don't overdo things in the first six months after your surgery.

"Nose jobs" have been around for thousands of years, it's not a new procedure People in India had their noses cut off if they had committed a crime and surgeons would construct a new nose for them. Rhinoplasty has come a long way since then and if it is something you really desire, can totally change the way you look.
